Hi, I use this windows shortcut for many apps.

  • Windows key + Shift + (number) - Start a new instance of the app pinned to the taskbar in the position indicated by the number, even if one is already open.

There is a shortcut for firefox where holding shift and opening the program will start it in safe mode, and this is true when starting the program from the Taskbar too I've found. Effectively disabling the windows shortcut above.

I want use the win+shift+# combo to quickly open a new window of the browser no matter what program has focus on my desktop.

I found a support post describing how to completely disable safemode [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1226264]. But I am wondering if there are other options available rather than removing the feature and modifying registry. Thanks

There was a bug filed when this feature got added and it shouldn't happen if an additional modifier key is pressed, so maybe they forgot about the Windows key back then.

  • 619866 - Holding Shift should only trigger safe mode if other modifiers are not held (avoid conflicts with custom shortcuts)

To change or modify key combo requires 3rd party software or userChrome.css edits beyond that Win and FireFox has their own shortcuts keycombo. And depending on which window environment your in or active that hotkey is active for that environment. Also that page doesn't exits as that is a Firefox FAQ help reply so it's probably deleted since it's not that.

Sorry, updated link for reference: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1226264. Ok thanks for info. So far the registry fix is working for me - hopefully I never need to use safemode

Interesting, yeah that was a while ago. I'm wondering if the windows key can't be detected by FF for some reason
