No GMAIL access

(This has happened more than once!) When Windows did a 'forced' software upgrade on my desktop PC, 3 days ago, my g-mail/email link will not load, therefore I am unable to access my emails. If I close Firefox and open the Chrome browser, I get access to my g-mail. I have tried clearing cache and cookies but my g-mail still will not open using Firefox. Do I have to ditch my Firefox and start using Chrome as my default browser just so I can get my email? Do you have any suggestions? FYI, I am not a 'computer tech'. I am retired. Hopefully your suggestion/recommendation will not be too complex for the typical/basic PC user.

How do you normally access Gmail? I typically use the following address that appears below my address bar when I type gm and then the site sends me to the login page:

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox

How does it work on yours? How far do you get? Are there any error messages?
