I want to have the page open up automatically with one click instead of right clicking and click "open in a new tab". my problem is that i accidentally click on the bookmark toolbar when i am on a tab that i want to keep open and it uses the page that i want to keep to open the new page i want to see.

You can middle-click on the bookmark to open it in a new tab.

If you always want bookmarks to open in a new tab you can use the Open Bookmarks in New Tab add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-bookmarks-in-new-tab
