App Tabs Vanish When Computer Closed

My App Tabs vanish after I shut off my computer. There's no problem opening and closing Firefox, so long as the computer stays on. But if I shut off my computer, when I re-open it, the App Tabs are gone.

I asked this question before, and got what I thought was the answer: set Firefox to remember my windows and tabs from last time, and to remember history. That seemed to work.

But today, when I turned on my computer, the App Tabs had vanished again.

App tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox Profile Folder

Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Browsing History"

OK. I don't clear recent history.

Does Firefox create a file sessionstore.js in the Firefox Profile Folder ?

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

This can be a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well. You will have to redo App Tabs and Tab Groups after deleting sessionstore.js.

OK. I deleted sessionstore.bak, sessionstore.js, and sessionstore-1 through 17.js. Now we'll see what happens.

Nope. Didn't work. When I turned on my computer today, App Tabs were all gone.

Unless someone from Firefox has a solution, it looks like App Tabs only last for one computer session.

I can't be alone with this problem. Any suggestions?

No one has solved this problem. Nothing getting better. No indication Mozilla even acknowledges the problem.

Key add-ons no longer work either.

Could it be FF4 was rushed to market to coincide with IE9?

FF4 is no good. Good in concept, not in execution.

I've gone back to 3.6.16.

Let me know if things get better.

Hi bobov, I have the EXACT same problem! I have NOT tried what cor-el suggested yet... only because I had tried SOO many other things that I'm afraid I'm going to MESS up something! I was just wondering if you found a FIX to this problem?? I mean an EASY one for the LESS techy (like me, lol)

Anyways, just wanted to tell you that NOPE.. you are NOT alone.. I have this SAME annoying problem! ..and SOMETIMES I get TONS of empty windows along with my window with the previous tabs <--which are NOT always accurate from the LAST ones... it's VERY frustrating...

I hope you will POST something if you find a fix!

Sincerely,

Frustrated!! (Shivonne)

Shivonne, I wish I had found a solution. I gave up looking and went back to 3.6.16. If something new turned up, I haven't heard. For me, the breaking point was that an add-on I need doesn't work with FF4, even though it supposedly does.

App Tabs were the main selling point for FF4, so they set up a big disappointment doing what they did. My guess would be that Mozilla engineers never turn off their computers, so it wasn't an issue for them. I wonder if they're even aware of this issue, but I've been told they rarely look at the Forum.

Thanks for writing. I knew I couldn't be the only one.
