How can I set Firebox to open my default page when I open a new tab?

When working in Firefox, I regularly need to open a new tab by clicking on the plus symbol. This opens a new blank tab window, but I would like that to automatically display my default page, as happens when I first open Firefox. I understand that some new tabs are opened by other actions, such as clicking on a link somewhere, but it should be possible to distinguish between those methods and the one I'm talking about.

You can do that by using an add-on such as:

Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.
