What you need to do to override the default behaviour which is to launch Google after you type in the name of a site and hit Enter, is the following.

  • If the site is a .com, hit CTRL+Enter
  • If it's a .net, hit SHIFT+Enter
  • If it's a .org, hit CTRL+SHIFT+Enter

If you just hit the Enter key on it's own, Firefox reverts to the default setting which is configured in keyword.URL
