How to get rid of afrikanns in the bar above the tabs?

I'm trying to install Firefox on a Mac G3 Powerbook running OS 10.4.11. I understand that 3.6 is the newest version of Firefox compatible with this OS. The first time I downloaded, I didn't notice the language selections, so downloaded the top (afrikanns) version. After discarding that version and downloading and installing the US English version, the Menus changed to English, but the Bar between the URLs and the tab titles remains in afrikanns.

What is on that bar -- the pre-populated bookmarks?

Let's assume the program files are truly in English. It's possible something in your Firefox profile has retained earlier settings.

Try creating a new (blank) profile as described in this article: Managing profiles.

If that works correctly, you can import bookmarks (if desired) and other key settings from the confused profile: Recovering important data from an old profile.

Any luck?

If the Firefox user interface (menu bar or other toolbars) is in the wrong language or if you want to change the current language then you can get Firefox in the language of your choice here:

I have downloaded and installed it in English twice, after the Afrikanns installation, but these few things didn't change. See image: I uploaded a partial screen capture, but it does not show up in the Preview, and the one that shows here is too small to be useful. I scaled the image 2x, but that didn't seem to help

Unfortunately, that article was for Windows and Linux, not Mac. I found my Firefox profiles folder, but no application to view or modify them. This is a new installation from scratch, so there is no data to recover. I'll try creating a new user for the computer and discarding the original. I think I finally succeeded in attaching an image large enough to see the problem...

Creating a new user on the Mac solved the problem. Thanks for the help!

If the default items on the Bookmarks Toolbar or in the sidebar are in the wrong language then you can rename them to the English names (right-click: Properties).

Bookmarks menu: Bookmarks Toolbar,Recently Bookmarked,Recent Tags,Get Bookmark Add-ons
Bookmarks Toolbar: "Most Visited", "Getting Started", "Latest Headlines"
Main folders: "All Bookmarks", "Bookmarks Toolbar", "Bookmarks Menu", "Unsorted Bookmarks"

Thanks for trying, but this is on a Mac. I couldn't get right-click (or option-click or control-click or command-click) to do anything...

Unfortunately, that article was for Windows and Linux, not Mac.

For future reference, articles here in the Knowledgebase have a version and operating system selector in the right column to tweak the article content to match your system. If that gives you broken/incorrect information, please flag that article so someone can fix it. (Actually it's a wiki so you can fix it if you want to get more involved.)

Correct! Unfortunately, not all responders noticed that. My original question did specify a Mac G3 with OS10.4.
