I've changed the screen size on my monitor, the Windows size, and the font sizes on Firefox, but while those actions have all increased the font size on the web pages the tool bars still remain so small, about a size 4 font, that they are difficult to read.

I need a size 12 font on the tool bars.

I'm running Windows 7 and Firefox 8 on a new computer, but on my older computer, with Windows XP and Firefox 4, the tool bar fonts are just right.

On the new computer I've tried Firefox 4, 6 and 8, but nothing changes.

Open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties), go to the Compatibilities tab and put a mark before "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" to see if that has effect.

Increase the String pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx in 0.1 steps from 1.0 to 2.0 on the about:config page. (percentage divided by DPI, % / DPI)

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
  • Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)
