Firefox automatically updated while I was using the browser and disappeared from the dock on my iMac. Since then I trashed Firefox, redownloaded and re-installed it but will still not go into the dock. I've restarted my Mac and redid everything again, still no Firefox in dock. Very inconvient to have to make an alias and put it on the desktop for fast access instead of using the dock.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.
If you can't replace the current Firefox application then first drag the current Firefox application to the Trash.

I DID install it correctly, opening the DMG file and dragging the Firefox program to the application folder. I finally fixed the problem by opening up Firefox and when it was in the dock because it was an active application, I control-clicked it to keep it in the dock. Otherwise I could not simply drag the icon to the dock like in the past. Very laborious workaround which I discovered by googling the issue.
