FF's cyclic CPU use freezes video

What is causing Firefox to jump to the top of the CPU cycles list every few seconds? With many tabs open videos were freezing for a second or so because of it, so I closed all tabs and FF still does it jumps to the top of the list. The video freeze is much less, but still perceptible.

Have you looked at the Firefox Performance troubleshooting section? There is a lot of good information in there that should help to resolve your issue.
