recently the Sessions Manager started acting weird. 1. when I restore after a reboot etc., I indicate to reload the last session when the dialog box shows up. it used to that always. now FF will start but does not reload as requested - i need to go back to it using the options menus and request it again, at which time it loads ok. everything else works fine and it reloads anything as usual. 2. following a crach, I find that the last session saved is not quite up-to-date i.e. when it brings it back, it will show the tabs that were there a while before it crashed - perhaps 10-15 minutes, and it will also miss the tabs last loaded before a crach.

Hi,

Please check if this happens in Safe Mode.

Problematic Extensions

Troubleshooting Extensions and Themes

Uninstalling Add-ons

Uninstalling Toolbars

Safe mode disables the installed Extensions, and themes (Appearance) in Tools (Alt + T) > Add-ons. Hardware acceleration is also temporarily disabled - the manual setting is Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Use hardware acceleration when available. Options > Advanced. All these settings/add-ons can also be individually or collectively disabled/enabled/changed in Firefox normal mode to check if an extension, theme or hardware acceleration is causing issues.

yes it does this all the time. something is interfering with it. I have not made any changes to my setup other than update FF with the latest version whenever it informs me that one is available. On the contrary, some add-ons and plugins are sometimes disabled since they do not conform to the latest version. I am not smart enough to figure all this out - out thought this what this forum is all about. All I know is things were working beautifully for years and now they don't!

You can try to check by installing only the Session Manager add-on in a new profile. If the new profile is okay, you can later copy the needed personal data from the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in another location (profile folder) separate from its files/folder. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings (Tools (Alt + T) > Options, and about:config ), and usually would also be empty of any Extensions and themes (Appearance) in Tools > Add-ons) and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website data/settings etc., (Tools > Clear Recent History).

Other strange things: when I restart FF after a crash, it shows me a number of older sessions to choose from. like I said before, usually regardless of which one I choose, it doesn't actually load it but simply opens with one default tab. when I then go to the Session Manager and try to load a session, it shows a slightly different list of sessions! where are these 2 different lists kept and how can I get the session manager to use the same that comes up when I restart FF?

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
