I would like to move my bookmarks to a folder onto my desktop. I followed the instructions for backup, but my shortcut on the desktop won't open.

Hi,

You can try to copy the bookmarksbackup folder or the latest .json file inside from the Firefox Profile Folder. These auto backup files created by Firefox show up in Bookmarks (Alt + B) > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore.

Also, you can Export Bookmarks to HTML from the previous menu and the exported file can be later used to Import Bookmarks from HTML.

You can also try to backup the places.sqlite file which contains both the bookmarks and the history.

You can also open the profile folder via Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder.
