Slow typing in Google+?

The stream update entry box on my G+ stream page is extremely slow to type in. It's so slow that I end up typing all my posts in Notepad and then paste them into G+.

The slowness only appears in the main stream update box, the one with the text "Share what's new..." as a topic hint. I don't have the slowness when commenting on other posts, or in other applications.

It's also not slow in Chrome or 64-bit IE; the problem seems to be confined to Firefox.

Firefox 11.0 has an option for running with everything disabled (safe mode). I ran Firefox in safe mode and the typing was back to normal speed!

I started it again in safe mode, where there's an option to permanently disable all your add-ons. I did that and restarted. When I tried typing it was very slow again. This was in normal mode, but with all my extensions and plugins disabled.

I ran Firefox in safe mode again, and the typing was fast again.

So there's something in Firefox that is causing this problem, but it's not loaded when you run Firefox in safe mode. And it's not an extension as it happens in normal mode with all the extensions disabled. I have no idea what it could be.

Anyone have any ideas?

Chosen solution

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration and disables the JavaScript JIT compiler.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Thank you! I didn't make a new profile. I just turned off hardware acceleration. That was the culprit!
