Error: tipElement is null in FillInHTMLTooltip

more options

After expanding a text area, when scrolling the text area, the browser hangs. After a while there is a pop-up message stating "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the scrip will complete."

The Error Console indicates that the issus is in chrome://browser/content/browser.js, line 6591. This is the second line of code in the JavaScript function FillInHTMLTooltip(tipElement).

function FillInHTMLTooltip(tipElement) {

 var retVal = false;
 // Don't show the tooltip if the tooltip node is a document or disconnected.

if (!tipElement.ownerDocument || (tipElement.ownerDocument.compareDocumentPosition(tipElement) & document.DOCUMENT_POSITION_DISCONNECTED))

   return retVal;

Also happens in versions 10 ESP and 13.

When I installed and ran version 15, the text rendered without a scroll bar, and there is no error. The tag was a <td> with a colspan = 3. However, now when I use Firefox version 11 or 13, it is also fixed. Running version 15 changed my version 11 and my version 13 setup so I can no longer reproduce user issues with older versions.
