this has happened before and I don't understand why. I make sure never to close Firefox window when shutting down so I have the same tabs saved. Generally if by mistake I do that I immediately recover it with the Recently closed Window option. Occasionally, as today, upon restart I find no old window/tabs + no option to recover through the Recently Closed Windows option. I have lost months of culled tabs that I have not backed up and It's going to take ages for me to retrieve. But I have not changed anything in the settings +did not run up any cleaning program just manually deleted some back history (mostly Facebook + other links I don't need). I'd like to know why Firefox dumps my tabs occasionally so I can avoid it happening again - thanks :-)

You mentioned you deleted history data, although you stated selectively & manually you could have inadvertently also removed some data related to FF etc.. especially if it has not happened before. However you should be able to still recover this data & configure FF to show the info you want & when. Please see the following:

How do I restore my tabs from last time?

Thanks for the reply Dbellca82 I already know how to set it up so it keeps the tabs, so your link does not help me, sorry :-) And I did not delete anything other than links in the history, Facebook links and why should there be FF important data in the history section when if cleaned automatically would also delete the important data? It does not make sense. If you have a specific way to recover the data I lost I would welcome the info. Otherwise the setting up was already in place, this has happened before...:-(

Are you using the Time Machine?

If you do then you can try to restore an older versions of the sessionstore.js file.

Thanks COr-el, no time machine, I guess all is lost, still unclear of why though
