I restarted computer and opened firefox but instead of browser I get crash report message I keep on hitting restart as reset does absolutely nothing after restarting several attempts give the option to open in safe mode. Now in safe mode everything works fine except for my personal settings. I have no clue what caused it. Tried downloading older versions but the same thing unable to open firefox only in safe mode. Went to about:crashes but don't understand any of it. Its really annoying when dealing with ads all the time on safe mode.

Chosen solution

Just a quick comment in passing.

Disable hardware acceleration, and try updating graphics drivers. (& conversely role back current one in Windows, in case a new one is the problem)

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

Firefox has twice now displayed a crash report after Windows Update followed by a "restart" -- in both cases Firefox was still running so was shut down by Windows rather than me. I rarely do a restart with any programs running so was surprised when it caused problems.

Hi patdrummond

You may have a problem with VideoLAN, so try to disable the plugin for Firefox, either in VideoLAN or in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins).
