When I save a bookmark it appears in show all boomarks but not in the bookmark tab how do I get them to show up again?
When I save a page to my bookmarks it doesnt show up in my bookmarks tab. They show up if I click show all bookmarks and scroll down to end, but they do not show up on my list of bookmarks in the regular bookmarks tab. How do I get them to start showing up again on the regular bookmarks area instead of only in the show all bookmarks area?

Do you see an >> icon at the right end of the Bookmarks bar? If you click on it, you get a dropdown list of the rest of the bookmarks. Note that there's place for five or ten bookmarks on the main window, but not more, so the rest is available under >>. You can of course rearrange them, i.e. pull the one you want, to the bookmarks bar, if you wish to. See Bookmarks Toolbar - Display your favorite websites at the top of the Firefox window for more on the subject.

I must have used the wrong terminology I have no issues with the Bookmarks bar. What I mean is at the top left of my screen where it says: File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help when I hit that Bookmarks and scroll to the end nothing new is there. For example if I go to lets say comcast.net and hit control d to bookmark it it wont show up at the bottom of the list on the bookmarks tab at top left of screen. The only way I can find it is by clicking on the show all bookmarks (control shift b) and that mini window pops up and its at the bottom of that. So what do I have to do in order to get the bookmarks I save to go back to the bottom of the bookmarks tab at the top left of my screen?
If you want bookmarks to show on the Bookmarks Toolbar then you need to move or copy them to the Bookmarks Toolbar folder.
- Bookmarks created via a click on the star in the location bar are stored by default in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder. A second click allows to edit the properties and move the bookmark to another folder.
- Bookmarks created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl + D) are stored at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder.
Yes, but I don't want them on the Bookmarks toolbar I want them on the bottom of the bookmarks menu folder. Yet when I hit control d they are no longer going at the bottom of bookmarks menu folder they are only going to the show all bookmarks folder. So how do I get them to go back to the bottom of the bookmarks menu folder
When you go to bookmark a page, do you see Bookmarks Menu in the box next to "Folder:"? That is what you need to choose to get the bookmark to go into the bookmarks menu.
I'm not sure what you mean with the bottom of the "Show All Bookmarks" folder.
Do you mean the Bookmarks menu or the Bookmarks/History Manager (Library)?
If you see them in the Library at the bottom of the right pane then which folder is selected in the left pane?
There are three main Bookmarks folders and bookmarks can only be created in one of those folders.
- The Bookmarks Toolbar folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the (View > Toolbars >) Bookmarks Toolbar.
- The Bookmarks Menu folder stores bookmarks that you see in the Bookmarks menu and create via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or "Bookmark This Link" in the right click context menu.
- The Unsorted Bookmarks folder stores the bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.
finitarry,
That is all there but the pages I bookmark are not going to the Bookmarks menu they are only going to the show all bookmarks area. I bookmark a page (control d) and instead of them going to the bottom of my bookmarks menu like they use to they only show up in the show all bookmarks box that pops up. I click show all bookmarks and a box pops up in the corner that says Library in top corner giving me the three options of Bookmarks Toolbar; Bookmarks Menu; & Unsorted Bookmarks. I then double click the Bookmarks Menu and it shows all my bookmarks I scroll to the bottom and that new page I just bookmarked is there, but it is not at the bottom when I hit the bookmarks tab at the top right of the mozilla webpage I have open. So how do I get the bookmarks to start going back to the bottom of the Bookmarks tab at the top right of the mozilla window I have open (by top right tab I mean the tabs that go: File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help)
cor-el,
By "Show All Bookmarks" I mean what you said the Bookmarks/History Manager (Library). When I bookmark a page with the (control d) I have bookmark menu selected in the Folder: tab yet the bookmarks are not coming up at the bottom of the bookmarks menu on the mozilla webpage when I hit the bookmarks tab from the top right of the webpage, they only show up in the Bookmarks/History Manager (Library) window that pops up when I hit "Show All Bookmarks" than select the Bookmarks Menu. How do I get them to start showing up in the Bookmarks tab from the top right of the mozilla webpage?
Do you mean the Bookmarks Menu button with the drop marker that you get when the menu bar is hidden?
That drop down list should include all bookmarks in the Bookmarks Menu folder, but doesn't include the Bookmarks Toolbar and needs to click a link to open the Library for the unsorted bookmarks folder.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
I have the same problem, except with Firefox 21.0. The above "solutions" are all inapplicable or refer to some other types of problems. This problem is totally unrelated to any questions about the "Bookmarks Toolbar", which in my situation is unused and completely blank.
To simplify:
1. I bookmark a new web page using the "Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" sequence.
2. The new bookmark does NOT appear in the "Menu Bar > Bookmarks" drop-down menu.
3. The new bookmark DOES appear properly in the "Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Library" screen.
4. Restarting Firefox or using Firefox Safe Mode does not cure the problem.
5. Interestingly when I open my Internet Explorer browser, and in that other browser go to "File > Import and export > Import from another browser > Firefox", then ALL of the new Firefox bookmarks which I had added in Firefox DO come through perfectly, correctly, and completely as new I.E. "Favorites".
6. Apparently my Firefox profile information is correct and complete, only the "Menu bar > Bookmarks" drop down menu is missing all of my legitimate new additions.
You need to move or copy a bookmark to the Bookmarks Toolbar folder to make it appear on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the URL in the location bar is bookmarked (star at the right end is yellow/blue) then click the highlighted star or use "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D) to edit the properties of the bookmark (name, location) and move it to another folder or remove the bookmark.
- Click the star at the right end of the location bar once to bookmark the current site.
- Click the highlighted star a second time to open the "Edit This Bookmark" window and move the bookmark to another folder or edit the name.
2. The new bookmark does NOT appear in the "Menu Bar > Bookmarks" drop-down menu.
Correct. It appears in Bookmarks > Recent bookmarks
I believe these replies misunderstand the question. This question has nothing to do with and no relationship to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
This is a question about the Bookmarks drop down menu.
New Bookmarks cannot be moved from "Recent Bookmarks" to the appropriate folder in the drop down menu. The "Edit This Bookmark" window already shows the new Bookmarks being in the proper folders. The drop down Bookmark menu just does not reflect that new content in the appropriate folders. The "Library" screen shows all Bookmarks, new and old, in the proper folders.
This misbehavior is new. Has Firefox pulled the rug out from under us once again by changing previous default behaviors from what once worked to new behaviors that don't work at all?
How can I address this misbehavior to someone at Mozilla who might actually be able to address it and to restore Bookmark behavior to what worked in the past?
Do you also see them all in the bookmarks sidebar (Ctrl+B)?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can also check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
FYI, none of these proposed solutions worked. Thanks for the attempts though, gentlemen.
I bypassed this Mozilla Support Forum entirely, did a Bing search for "Firefox Bookmarks missing", was directed to the Firefox "Places Maintenance" add-on... and that add-on COMPLETELY SOLVED THE PROBLEM!
All of my new Bookmarks are now present, accounted for, and shown in the proper Bookmarks Menu drop-down box locations.
No more issue.
Problem solved.
I believe my question is related. I believe it has now been a couple of years since the problem started, and it's so annoying, but I never pursued a solution, other than an occasional search. Here is the example: I want to bookmark a page. Prior to the problem, for years, I would click on Bookmark and then in the drop down menu, I would click Bookmark This Page. Next, I could either choose to file the bookmark in a file listed under one of the two drop down menus that would appear (presently, the name of the window is "Edit this bookmark") or, I could just click "Done." If I were to click Done, the page I bookmarked would appear at the bottom of the drop down menu that appears when choosing Bookmarks from the ... I think it's called the Menu bar -- the one at the top of my screen. If, instead of choosing "Done," I were to click on one of my files in either of the two drop down menus, then the bookmarked page would be filed neatly in that file, just as I intended.
But for the past couple of years, or so, when I go through those same motions, the bookmarked page is nowhere to be found. Oh, also, some of the File folders that appear when I click on Bookmarks in the toolbar, suddenly are absent when I look at the two drop down menus that DO contain most, but mysteriously, not all, the File folders.
So now, if I want to bookmark, let's say a recipe. I have a Recipes folder that I created that appears in the main list that opens when clicking on Bookmarks from the Menu Bar. I click on Bookmark This Page, and then if I am lucky enough to find my Recipes folder in one of the two drop down menus, I click on the Recipes folder. I click Done. In the past, this meant that I could then go into Bookmarks, and go down and click on Recipes. And there would be the recipe I had saved in that folder. But NOW, it's not there. Sometimes, I can open Show All Bookmarks and comb through stuff and find it and then drag it over to the folder on the left side of the screen. Today, I can't even find it that way. FINALLY, with Show All Bookmarks open, I decide to look in the Recipes folder to the left, and I find it there! -- But then it's not in the Recipes file when I click on it from the drop down list from the Menu Bar! How can this be??
OK, now one more thing. Now, I'm looking at this list of files on the left side of the screen with Show All Bookmarks open. NOW, I see that there seem to be TWO lists of files. I don't know why. Obviously, at some point, I wasn't seeing files such as "Recipes" that should have been there, because I had previously created it and used it. What could I do, but quickly create a new folder called Recipes. So, on the fly, at some point I did. What are these folders filed under? Look some more.... OK, there are two similar lists of folders (see explanation just mentioned). The folders that pop up in the drop down "edit" menus are where my bookmarks go. The similar-looking list of folders that appear when I click on Bookmarks from the Menu Bar, do not contain my bookmarks. Although they do contain bookmarks that I manually dragged into them, and also may contain pages bookmarked prior to when this problem ever started.
I hope someone understands what I'm saying. It probably sounds very confusing, unless you are experiencing the same or similar problem. It probably happened during the transition from one Firefox version to another, but now the problem is so old, I would not even know which version that would be.
Thanks much.
Have you tried the Firefox "Places Maintenance" add-on to fix your bookmarks? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
Thanks. I saw that mentioned. I thought, after "all these years" that I would lay it all out there, as it were. Then, if I didn't get any other applicable suggestions, that is what I was going to try.
Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
I added the Places extension, but which of the boxes do execute?
