I upgraded to Firefox 26 to fix memory problems. However Firefox was still running slow every few seconds. So I did a Firefox reset.

Now i have lost: 1. Bookmarks 2. History 3. Back button 4. Default homepage setting

I tried restoring a bookmarks backup from yesterday but all the files give a processing error.

OK, I stopped Firefox and restarted it and the problem has gone away. I now have bookmarks and history and a back button.

I have no idea why they are now working.

That sounds that there was a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores bookmarks and history that appears to have corrected itself.
