I have tried running Firefox in safe mode - it still does not ask me where to save my bookmark when adding a new bookmark.

Chosen solution

I've used Firefox for years and this is the way that it has been as long as I can remember.

I personally don't find it to be a big hassle.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. (You'll need to be on the latest version of Firefox to submit feedback). Are you using the bookmark star on the address bar?

If so, you need to click the star once to add the bookmark. It will then turn yellow.
It will only have the default page title and will be saved to your Unsorted Bookmarks.
When you click the yellow star a second time, you will be able to set the title, location, and add tags. This is where you are also able to remove the bookmark.

More information about using and creating bookmarks can be found in: How to use bookmarks to save and organize your favorite websites

Thanks for your reply Wesley. Yes, I am using the star and presumed that the behaviour of Firefox would be the same as Chrome and from what I remember in the past - in that I should be prompted for where I want to place my bookmark, rather than Firefox forcing me to go edit the bookmark each and every time I add it.

How long has Firefox been forcing one to go edit the bookmarks as I am pretty sure this is new behaviour?

You need to click the star a second time if you want to change the default location from the Unsorted folder to another folder. The context menu entry saves a bookmark in the Bookmarks Menu folder.

Hi Alienchild!

I know this post is old, but this solution could also help readers. When my clients ask me about this behaviour, I suggest to use the keyboard shorcut CTRL-D. In this way, Firefox will ask you where to save this bookmark.

Hope this help! :)

None of the suggestions work, and I know this hasn't been this way before the last update to version 30 . I have been using Firefox for at least 8+ years so this is a new defect.
