Transfer bookmarks and bookmark toolbar to another computer

I am transferring bookmarks, including the toolbar from one Win7 machine to another Win7 machine. I followed the instructions posted, but the transfer is putting the bookmarks in a folder under the existing (default from installation) toolbar. I have tried several variations of target for the import without resolving the problem. I want to replace everything on the new computer (toolbar and favorites). I moved the current bookmarks from a XP machine. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Exactly which file did you "transfer"?

Doing a "Backup" and "Restore" in the JSON format should have replaced the bookmarks on the "receiving" Firefox installation, with all the folders aligned as on the Firefox that made the "donation".

What file format did you use to transfer the bookmarks?
Restoring a JSON backup will replace all the bookmarks.
Importing an HTML backup will merge the imported bookmarks with the bookmarks you already have.
In some cases importing an HTML backup can add extra folders and doesn't place imported bookmarks in the correct bookmarks root folder.
If that is the case then you will have to use cut&paste or move the bookmarks manually to the correct folders.
You can do that in the Bookmarks Manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks).
