Thunderbird is slow and unresponsive. It takes about 2 minutes for email to be delivered, then another 1 or 2 minutes to open emails once they come in. How do we resolve this issue and get the software to work properly? I am using a 64bit system with lots of processing power, ram and high quality video card. The problem seems to have started when I cleared my registry from errors.

Possible solution: This has been an ongoing issue for me too over many months. Yesterday I uninstalled Thunderbird v31 and downloaded and installed an old version (v17). This didn't solve the problem so I reinstalled v31 and now the problem has vanished (at least for now).
