I am not able to open a new tab.

The "+" on the right of the existing tab changes color when I click it but no new tab appears.

Selecting Command "T" does not create a new tab.

I can only get new tabs to appear by spawning these as an option within an existing page that opens new content in a new window.

Were you able to identify the extension that causes this issue for you?

We have seen reports that some community toolbars are causing this issue.

You need to disable or uninstall the offending extension.

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?

Ok, I did this and was able to get new tabs. If you don't want to have to disable all your extensions, just go to the Add-ons manager and go right to Update at the bottom of the list on the left. Update your extensions first to see if that makes a difference. It did in my case. It found one update that had not automatically installed, so I installed it, restarted, and now I have the new tabs function again.

(For you IMVU users out there using the Imvu, Inc toolbar, this was the extension causing the problem...as it so often does when the browser updates.)

I find working in safe mode a very limited work around as I lose access to my usual menu bar and other features.

A simple solution to this current V30 defect is to open a New Window and then drag its tab to the existing window. The new window disappears and you now have the new tab where you need it.

Its cumbersome of course but effectively creates a new tab in my single Firefox window without having to operate in safe mode.

I can access my usual menu bars etc and it is still quicker than re-creating all these in Chrome or Safari (hope are you listening Firefox peeps???!!! )

BTW - the updating of my Add Ons did NOT fix the problem.
