One of my users is having an issue in Firefox that I've never seen before. If she types the @ symbol to log-in to a website, as soon as she types it Firefox brings her back to her homepage. I double-checked to make sure she didn't have her Ctrl or Alt keys stuck down. I also verified that she doesn't have the add-in that would allow her to customize her keyboard shortcuts. This makes it very difficult for her to log-in to sites that she needs to use to do her job. I had to have her switch over to Internet Explorer for now, which I really didn't want to do.

Please advise. User's PC is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit & Firefox 34.0

Did she try to reboot the computer?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

It is possible that the keyboard layout has been switched by accident by using the key sequence to rotate the keyboard layout.

Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.
