The new version has the preview pane on the bottom, instead of on the right like the old version. How do I change back to the preview pane on the right? My better half likes it that way, and you know how that goes!

You are referring to the 'Message Pane'.

Just so that you understand, there is no 'preview' pane. The word 'preview' implies that the message is not open.

When you click on email in list, the email is opened in the 'Message Pane' or if you double click on email in list it is opened in a new tab. Both methods open an email.

It sounds like you ar viewing in Classic layout view. 'View' > 'Layout' > select 'Vertical View' or via menu icon: 'Menu Icon' > 'Options' > 'Layout' > Select 'Vertical View'

Thank you! Apologize for the misidentification... old Windows knowledge!

The latter did the trick.... I appreciate it!
