My "default" search engine keeps changing itself usually to Yahoo or Bing — I have to change it back sometimes 5+ times per day. I don't have "Provide search suggestions" checked; I've also unchecked all the other search choices under "One-click search engines". This issue is really becoming quite annoying.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
