Firefox will not download an attachment (icloud mail, 2.4mb). Chrome; IE will. Dialog box flashes quickly, then disappears. Help?

I'm using Firefox 39 in Win 8.1. In icloud mail, I have one attachment, 2.4mb, that will not download. The dialog box (save location) flashes very quickly and no file gets downloaded. Chrome & IE have no problem witht his file. I've toggled the "ASK LOCATION" to Downoad folder and back with no changes. Any suggestions? thanks, Dan

When I ask firefox to save a file, the save dialog still flashes, goes away, and no file is downloaded. I've gone through the steps given, including refreshing firefox, removing any user preferences from the about:config section, turning bitdefender off and trying to download.

If I specify to always use the download folder, I seem to have success downloading files, but I used to be able to specify location for each file and I still cannot do that.
