The presence of the green plus added to the search engine icon means that a website offers a search engine.

If the website offers a search engine then you will notice a green plus next to the search engine icon and an "Add..." item in the search engine menu that opens if you click this button.

That green icon should not be able to cause your issue, that is most likely caused by something else.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
