When I open Thunderbird the message pane is blank until I click on one of the messages in the list. It's blank whether or not there is a new message.

Is there any way the message pane can be populated automatically each time I open Thunderbird? I would like to see the last, or latest e-mail displayed in the message pane each time I open Thunderbrid.

When you see an email in the 'Message Pane', that email must have been selected and opened - it is not some 'preview', it is an opened email. I mention it because some people may not be aware of this.

If you had already checked and opened an email in a tab (double clicking to open), then the session should remember that a tab had been opened, so restoring it when restarting. So this is a means of keeping open the last email you read.

If I or anyone locates ameans of auto opening any email from any one in the Message Pane on startup, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the response, at least I know that there is no option to do what I wanted it to do, but it's no big deal.

Perhaps future updates could populate the message pane with either the last viewed mail, or the most recent new mail?
