Hello rajatmathur, I understand that when you visit the online service hotstar.com/code, that there is a MIME type that is not supported. Sometimes this will depend on the video type compatibility. I do understand that is working in Chrome, but not Firefox. Let's investigate.
First, what kind of device are you using to watch the video on the hotstar service site? Second, what version of Firefox and Android are you using?
In the terms of use for hotstar it works on a "compatible system" of Android 4.0 and higher, and the latest Firefox and Flash player, first make sure that those are updated. (I do know flash player is not supported on some versions of Android)
There is also a contact information hello @ hotstar .com listed to include details of material, details of the objection, relief reiquest and other info for complaint, but its the same email for support.
However I think we are running into some kind of compatibility issue. Is there any way to tell what file extension is being used for the video you are seeing this error on?
To contact the support we should ask the file type, provide a the link to the video and the device and operating system version.
One last question before we contact them, do you have Flash installed on the device? If so, what version and source is it from?
Hi Guigs
I have installed the latest android version of firefox available in google play store, i am on 5.1.1 android version and below is one of video link which is not playing
http://www.hotstar.com/tv/the-great-indian-laughter-series/458/special-guest-neha-dhupia/1000034748
When i open the above link then i see this MIME type that is not supported. I tried to install android flash player but still its not working, on the other hand the above video and many other video available on the hotstar.com website is playing in android uc browser, google chrome and in these browsers i don;t have to install adobe flash player, they have inbuild support to play videos from hotstar.com
If android uc browser, google chrome can play any videos from www.hotstar.com then why firefox is left behind, kindly please check at your end to play the hotstar videos in android uc browser, google chrome and then whatever plugin support is missing in firefox to play video from hotstart, com, do provide a fix for the this issue in your next build for android firefox.

thanks a lot
Chrome uses the Pepper Flash Plugin while Firefox uses the Flash Player Plugin for Android which has not been supported by Adobe since September 2013.
The old Flash Player only works on Android devices with the ARMv7 cpu and not newer cpu's like ARMv8 or Intel for example.

i daily use hotstar.com to watch videos, as firefox is not playing the video, so i have no choice to watch the videos in uc browser. I want to use only 1 browser not 2-3 in my mobile.
UC browser has many finctions like from the video screen i can increase and decrease the volume, brightness, All i can do is request you please update android firefox player with android UC Browser player in your next build release, most people don't bother about this, but i want to see firefox to be the number one android browser.
Hope you understand and consider my request

Hi rajatmathur , Did you ever find out what the video format of the video you were streaming was?
Thank you, guigs
Hotstar video format is m3u8. Again I would like to request you please fix this error as soon as possible.
Waiting for your reply
At the moment, this video format has had an open bug for two years and I do not see recent action. However I would recommend opening up a webcompat issue, this can be done through the webcompat github. I would be happy to do this for you, however I cannot guarantee a fix.
Why don't you change the video player to what uc browser or chrome that would solve the problem Is it so hard for Firefox team to change the video player. Any way I hope the fix for my problem is sooner than later.
M3U8/HLS is a proprietary format created by Apple that is both patent encumbered and not well supported on Android. It is possible that Chrome/UC are getting different file that they can (and Firefox should be able to) playback.
We'll why can't Firefox change there video player to android uc player or chrome player. I have been requesting and no one is taking my suggestion. I am very disappointed with Firefox.
Still Waiting for the solution, please let me know will firefox fix there video player and change it to uc or chrome browser so that hotstar can be played.

thanks
There is no short term solution.
I just want to know is Firefox going to solve this issue, are they working on this issue, if not now then how many months will it take to get this working.
Let me know
thanks
Still no update regarding this problem, i guess i am going to use UC browser as it does not have this problem.
I am very disappointed in Firefox, i thought it should listen to the people problem and solve it, but rather solving this problem Firefox is not even telling me the time when it will solve this problem..
