I go into Privacy under Options and un-click the three boxes under Location Bar (History, Bookmarks, Open Tabs). Then I exit Firefox. When I open Firefox again and start typing in the location bar, it supplies a drop-down menu of suggestions, When I check the Location Bar settings under Privacy, they are always checked on again. I can't save the settings that I want. Also, the Clear Recent History Option under History is always grayed out, whether I check under History in the Menu Bar or click on History under the Open Menu symbol in the upper right corner.

Could you check the fixes in this article (you don't have to use Refresh first if you have the patience for the specific troubleshooting): How to fix preferences that won't save.

Hmm, is Firefox set for automatic private browsing??

Thanks! Both of your suggestions worked!

I found out that apparently adding the SearchSafe extension is what causes the problem. Removing SearchSafe solves the problem.
