I installed Firefox on a new mobile phone. Trying to "Sync" bookmarks etc. I was asked to log in using a "Username" and password. My Firefox account DOES NOT HAVE A "USERNAME" - I tried several times to use the "Forgotten my username" process and I was advised that an email had been sent to my Firefox email address. No email was received. I noticed that the message saying an email had been sent added a final stop to my email address - I could not rectify this.

I found my way to this forum and eventually ascertained that I had to have a SEPARATE ACCOUNT and LOG-IN for it - this appears to be separate from my Firefox account. I now appear to have THREE log-ins for Firefox - one for the browser, a second as the "Master password for the Software Security Device" and a third for the Support forum.

And I cannot find a way to LOG OUT of Firefox so I can check if my understanding is correct!

Such e-mail is always sent to the address on file with the website.

Check your user profile at the site. Also check your junk mail folder.

Firefox, the browser, does not need a password to use it. However, if set you will need the Master Password to access the Password Manager.

Mozilla.org is divided into several separate sites. Each using its own user/password.

My email address is correctly quoted in the field towards the foot of the pane that opens when I hit the 3 bars menu icon at top right of the Firefox screen. It also appears correctly in the "Firefox Account" box on the "Sync" page. Despite this, the several times that the system tried to send a response when I requested my "Username", nothing arrived. However, when I go via the "Manage your account" link on the "Sync" page, I am asked to log in again using my email NOT a "Username" and using the password I chose when first setting up my Firefox account. This generates an email asking for confirmation; this email does arrive and the link works to confirm it.

I assume that my "User Profile" comprises the settings obtained by hitting the email address in the pane delivered when I hit the 3 bars menu icon? I can't see anywhere else termed a "Profile". As mentioned above, if I go via the "Sync" link and then "Manage my account", once I have logged in, I can see buttons relating to 'Display name', 'Password', and other things. The email address here is correct. Nothing in junk mail folder.

OK, I'm beginning to see the light here, maybe! Whenever I re-open Firefox after previously closing it, or after a restart say, it always asks me for the "Master Password". I had asssumed therefore, that this password was needed in order for me to use Firefox. But I guess what's actually happening is that, because Firefox is re-opening tabs that had been open when it was closed previously, it wants the Master Password to authorise this.
