Hi there,

I cannot watch videos in firefox for mac, but i can using the safari browser. What setting can i chnage to make it work for Firefox?

I already pored over all the permissions, enabled pop-ups for the site even, and checked all my add-on and plugins, but can't find the solution.

Thanks!

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Ghostery, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

  • make sure your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

thanks so much corel!! this info is super, and i will surely explore it and save it all for future reference!

just a question regarding replying to you here: i could read your reply in my email, and could click the link to reply, but then on the actual page here, i could not reply. i had to sign in first. that would be fine, only then after i sign in, i can no longer access the page while on site. i can get to many other places, eg. profile, home, ask a new question,etc... but the only way i finally can get back here to give you a thankyou reply is by going back to my email again and reclicking for om there. am i missing something?

wishing you a great night! :)

As in what does the page say when you goto it with Firefox? (if your video's are still not working)

Wow Corel,

i just discovered the problem was ghostery! (I love the app, but in this case it was easy to disable it for the page with video.

Yay, thanks again! :)

oh, a question corel if you wouldn’t mind, about this caching "clear now"— is this the only way, ie. you can’t clear cache for just one webpage?

And, another question this advanced prefs brings up is: what exactly is "offline web content and user data"? It seems like it is different than "cookies", right? It mystifies me because every time i have ever looked at it, it says it "is currently using 0 bytes", even though i have not disallowed sites to do that.

thanks!

To clear the disk cache for only one website can probably only be done via "Forget About This Site", but that removes everything from a website (domain) and that is likely overkill in most cases and can lead to data loss.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note. You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

"offline web content and user data" is part of other ways to store data locally like IndexedDB and local storage.

An example of a website that uses this is outlook.live.com (pages used by Outlook/Hotmail).

Thanks Corel!

wishing you a great day! :)
