I upgraded to Firefox Quantum and lost my bookmarks. Where did they go?

After upgrading Firefox my bookmarks disappeared. Not out of order or hidden, gone, like a clean install would look. I hadn't backed them up in over 2 years, so that's really not the ideal solution. When I searched my computer for a file with "bookmark" in it a few things turned up, but they were JSONLZ4 files and I didn't know how to use them or if they were even the correct things. An example of one of these files looks like this: bookmarks-2017-11-16_726_vfEzVGOrTYL2B4wcs3lDmQ== and it is in this folder C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\tzl72uqw.default\bookmarkbackups

OK... I imported the html file into Chrome and then transferred things from Chrome into Firefox. Still not sure why I couldn't import directly into FIrefox, but the problem has been solved. Thanks!

Open up Help > Troubleshooting Information and then at Profile Folder use the Open Folder button.

Verify that Firefox is using the same Profile as the one where you found that JSONLZ4 bookmarks backup file.

Report back here.

Two things:

(1) You might just need a button (2) Typically the latest bookmarks are shown on the Restore menu

Bookmarks Menu Button

There is a "real" bookmarks menu button for the toolbar. You can add it from Customize, or use the "Library" button as described in the article linked below:

Restore Menu

This article has the steps to use the Restore feature in the Library window: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. The menu should show the date and the bookmark count for each available file.

Plan C

I created a page that can convert between the compressed jsonlz4 file and other formats, in case that helps: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/bookbackreader.html

It is using the same profile

jscher2000, I tried your converter and it gave me an html file with my bookmarks (thank you!), but for whatever reason Firefox isn't importing them.

Unique ? Half the people here have the same problem. Uninstalled Firefox. Ran disk clean up. re-installed, bookmarks appeared via firefox sync, and 5 minutes latter ,all bookmarks have once again vanished. With Sync on or off, all bookmarks keep disappearing. Even if I re-install Windows 10, it wont matter. I have tried that. All Firefox bookmarks keep disappearing.
