I need to be able to see the full email address of the Sender before I open the email but it's only showing a Display Name so I have no way of identifying whether it's ok for me to open the email. How do I get it to display the full email address? I found the option to uncheck the 'Show only display name for people in my address book' but that has no effect and isn't really relevant as Thunderbird is only showing the Display Name for every sender regardless of whether they are in my address book or not

If you are using the current version of Thunderbird you can now select a column header specifically to show just the email address.

Please note that there are nefarious people who will abuse other peoples email addresses, so knowing the email address may not necessarilly tell you who actually sent it. But in most cases it will.

The 'Display Name' will use your Address Book contact entry for 'Display Name' if you have entered one and selected the option to always show Display Name. If you choose not to select that option, then it will show either the email address of sender or the Display name that the sender included with the email address.

click on the far right column header selection icon and select 'Sender[@]' in that list. See image below as guide.

I'm using Thurderbird 52.7.0 (32-bit) and it says it's up to date but it doesn't have Sender@ listed in the columns to display list. See image for what appears when I click on the select columns to display button. How do I get Sender@ listed as an option to display?

The Sender@ column requires this add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/show-address-only/

To install, drag the Download Now button and drop it onto Tools/Add-ons/Extensions in TB.

I must say I thought that the Sender@ column was provided by an add-on. And I don't have that column here either.

Have a look at these: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/senderaddresscolumn/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/show-address-only/?src=ss

Sorry everyone, I'd forgotton about that extension. I installed it at the same time as an update. My mistake. Yes, I did install the 'show address only' addon extension to get the 'sender[@]' column header option.
