Your beta version with DNS masking turned on freezes repeatedly and I can only close FireFox by force quitting using Task Manager. Why is this?

more options

Cannot switch tabs or close windows frequently when DNS masking is on. The DNS address I use is 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare). I haven't tried 8.8.8.8 (Google) yet. Anyway, I am concerned about internet security and want to use more secure DNS addresses as well as VPN. I wish FireFox would offer free VPN like Opera does.

Hmm, I have not heard of DNS masking. Is that a beta feature?

Speaking of new features, check out: https://www.ghacks.net/2018/04/02/configure-dns-over-https-in-firefox/

As for VPN, for the foreseeable future, you'll need either an add-on or a system-level VPN.

Yes, it's the beta version. Supposedly using new domain server names from Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8) helps to prevent government surveillance. It's an extra level of security besides using VPN.

After the EquiFax and Facebook security leaks, people are concerned about their personal data.

I appreciate your help.

Hi, this is completely new to us in Support as the announcement by Cloudflare was only made yesterday. It is a holiday still and have only seen 1 small article today : https://www.techspot.com/news/73964-cloudflare-free-dns-service-speeds-up-web-browsing.html that was not informative or as long as the Cnet article I was asked about yesterday covering the release info : https://www.cnet.com/news/cloudfare-new-1111-dns-privacy-tool-would-speed-your-internet-too/ All I do know is that there is a web site : https://1.1.1.1/ you may find info there.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

I don't understand why DNS settings would affect your ability to switch tabs. Perhaps it's a coincidence and there is a completely unrelated issue affecting the UI?

more options

It only happens with beta FireFox not with Opera, Chrome or Edge. None of which has the manual DNS feature.

Manual DNS, hmm. What setting did you change? Is there an article which discusses this setting?

I appreciate your help and curiosity but this info is easily found through an internet search.

If FireFox successfully implemented this tool and offered a VPN connection it would blow Edge and Chrome out of the water. Opera is already ahead of all of you.

Okay, I've seen these articles, but I'm most interested in what setting you changed on your Firefox, or if you didn't change a setting on Firefox but only at the system level.

I experimented with DNS over HTTPS in Nightly this morning and it didn't involve using an IP address (https://www.ghacks.net/2018/04/02/configure-dns-over-https-in-firefox/):

But that might not be applicable to beta.
