I am using 3 email accounts on Thunderbird (currently 52.9.1(32-bit)), for several local and international contacts. The "Local Folders" is in a number of separate Archive directories, in my spare space in my W10 (64-bit) hardware. This should enable compacting the space for daily use (currently this local directory is "X:\ArchiveMail\Mozilla2\Local Folders"), where I maintain yearly archives. My guess was that this would stop Mozilla's daily commands for compacting.

You may be getting many compact messages because of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1260698 ... and not because of anything you are doing wrong
