Hi,

I have noticed for the past few days that my FF 63.0.3 version (current) removes the McAfee WebAdvisor add-on, which gets installed with the licensed McAfee Security s/w on my Windows 10 PC. I had to install it again twice in the past week to ensure I remain protected by said add-on while browsing / accessing banking sites etc. Has anybody else faced this issue and if so what is the reason ?

This issue occurs only in FF and not in other browsers I use, such as Edge, IE, or Chrome, hence the query.

Thanks.

Hey McCoy, thanks for sharing the link to Tyler Downer's post on similar issue, but mine seems different from that discussed in that thread. Moreover, he seems to make a value judgment about McAfee products altogether, which doesn't sit well with me. I am no fan of McAfee or any other security product maker, but I feel my issue was temporary and got resolved after I reinstalled the McAfee WebAdvisor from McAfee website. So far, it's held up :-)

P.S.: My McAfee Multi-Device 15-month subscription came with the Dell PC I bought earlier this year, so hope to stay with it for now, as I browse 'safe' websites and don't think I need to spend more on another security s/w (they all seem the same !).

The add-on only adds options to the browser. It's the main program that protects your system.

Have you contacted McAfee support? Is the program up to date?

Note: WebAdvisor has caused issues in the past.

Yes, McAfee auto-updates itself over my BB / Wi-Fi internet connections and it's updated as I checked earlier too. I did contact McAfee Support but they said that the add-on remains enabled in Edge, IE, and Chrome, so it's not their issue to fix, and that I need to check with Mozilla Firefox web browser community for a fix as it's related specifically to FF alone removing the Add-on. I can understand an add-on being disabled by FF if it doesn't comply with their terms / policy, but this is the first time I find an add-on being removed altogether by FF. Also, noticed that FF consumes a whopping 1Gb with just three tabs open and the only other extension installed is the AdBlock Plus. Mozilla needs to fix this too !

I don't use McAfee and called for more help.

That was very good work. Well done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.

McAfee Tech Support has uninstalled and reinstalled the McAfee WebAdvisor tool twice without success. This feature is very useful to me when I do searches. This tool just 'disappeared' from your browser. I use Windows 7 on my Dell PC. Why has this tool been removed from your browser? Is there a fix for it? I am using Firefox version 66.0.3

Hello peneustein,

This is (or maybe I should say : was ) caused by an unforeseen technical problem - sorry for the inconvenience ….

Please see :

How will I know if this issue has been fixed? Will the add-on automatically appear on my browser, or will I need to uninstall/reinstall the McAfee Webadvisor again?

When this issue occurred yesterday, the McAfee agent tried to uninstall and reinstall it. It is currently showing as a program in my Microsoft Control panel as 5/4/19. Not sure what to do.

Several hours have passed and I don't see the WebAdvisor add-on on Firefox. Please advise status...not sure what to do.

The McAfee WebAdvisor extension in Firefox web browser got installed and remains active after I reinstalled it. Seems it was a temporary issue with Firefox's add-on signing policy or something, which seems to have disabled ALL my extensions last weekend and Firefox team had to release a hotfix to resolve the issue.
