In Fedora 32, I use Thunderbird 68.8.0. I have replaced Firefox with Firefox Developer Edition.

When I try to follow a link, thunder bird complains: `Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile.`

In the troubleshooting section I looked for : network.protocol-handler.external-default but I couldn't find this line.

How can I add this line to my profile?

The entry is of type boolean and it accepts true or false as its values, so right-click inside the config editor, select new then boolean. It should be straight-forward from there.

network.protocol-handler.external-default has been added to the preferences (with the value 'true') but when I inspect the 'important changes' section in troubleshooting Thunderbird, I can't see any changes.

Following a link in Thunderbird still results in the error.

I note you mention replaced Firefox with Firefox Developer Edition and not beta etc. I found this bug report:

So was wondering if this has something to do with enabling DBus remote for X11 for Wayland as per comment 31 in bug report.
