Recover Deleted Firefox Browsing History
Regarding "Recover Deleted Firefox Browsing History"
I ran CCleaner software and it deleted all my history on general PC Health checkup & fix without my knowledge it would do so. I need to get them back. I use Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have reviewed the answers given on this by helpers back in July 2020 but I am unclear on where to find the index.dat file they mention. The instructions given there about going thru START etc and changing what files are visible on C drive I assume relate to Windows folder options ??????? Yes / No ? (Where is this Start button because the bottom left of screen one doesnt run the search sequence they mentioned).
Exactly what folder is the backup saved index.dat file in ?
Then using the index.dat viewer which file do I copy its information to ?
Can someone give a clear concise step by step description on recovery of the lost browsing history.
I would also comment Firefox ought to have an recovery button for accidentally deleted history to save having to go thru all this

The "start" button is in the bottom left of the screen and is the windows logo. Once you click this, there should be a search bar at the bottom left of the window that comes up.
However, since you want to try and recover the files, your best bet is to download either "index.dat suite" or "index.dat scanner" off your browser in order to view the index.dat files. Thus, you will not need to use the start button.
Considering that you deleted them, they may be lost, but there may be a recovery method in one of those programs I mentioned.
I hope something that I wrote here will work, but again, considering that it was deleted with a file cleaning software, you may not be able to recover your search history.
We do not recommend using other programs to clean Firefox because they could corrupt the files. Also, the browser can clean itself.
Firefox stores the history in places.sqlite in the profile folder, so you would need an older copy of places.sqlite to recover this history.
You can check in Windows Explorer if there is a previous version of the places.sqlite file available.
