I updated a group list yesterday, removing some names and adding others. When I sent a group e-mail today, apparently Thunderbird used the old list. There was no way to tell before pressing "send" who actually the e-mail was going to. When I check the group list in the address book, the updated set of names is there.

Two questions: 1) how do I fix this so the updated list is the one Thunderbird uses? 2) how do I prevent this happening in the future - how can I tell the actual list of names that will receive the e-mail, before I send it? (right now it is just the group name under the recipients list)

Thank you!

Thanks Toad-Hall. I was able to fix the problem by rebooting the computer. Using any of the options above did not work. Next time I'll start there.

Can you confirm you did it in this order: Updated the address book mailing list and closed 'Address Book' Opened a new 'Write' after updating the address book (this is important) started to type mailing list name and select from drop down

If you had already opened a Write and selected the group name, but then decided to alter the group list before completing the email, the alterations would not be included in that already opened Write message.

re:how can I tell the actual list of names that will receive the e-mail, before I send it? There is an alternative method you might prefer - check it out.

In 'Address Book' select the mailing list name in left pane - will see a list on the right displaying all names in that group click on 'Write' This time all the names will be entered in a 'To' field, so you can see each email address. However, you may feel you want to move them all to a 'Bcc' field. select first name to highlight, press Ctrl+A to highlight all, right click and select 'Move to Bcc'

Or alternative option: Type the group mailing list as before in Bcc or select it from the 'Contacts Sidebar' But this time use 'Send Later' It puts email in 'Outbox' select email in Outbox list - I find this lists all the recipient names. The group name itself has disappeared.
