I've recently migrated to Thunderbird, from Apple Mail. I've managed to establish one email account (which runs through Google email servers) but ran into trouble when I tried to add my iCloud account. I've tried 3 times to add the same account, and it fails every time. On attempt one, I generated an app-specific password to use - however this was rejected by TB - the message being : 'unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password" I made sure the user name was entered correctly (ie without the '@iCloud.com' part, and checked the password was correctly entered. I also checked the port settings, server addresses etc. Please see attached file.

I also generated a new app specific password and tried that - same result. I tried the original iCloud password too - still no luck.

Please help...

It's not straightforward, and I think it's slightly different for setting it up on Windows or OS X.

Thanks very much for your answer. I've viewed both of those links, however neither of them seem to be any hep - as I've already done those things (2 factor authentication was already setup for my use of an alternative (and way better) calendar app called BusyCal - that too uses an app specific password - which works well. I got a new app specific password for TB - but alas, same problem. It's super frustrating that I can't get my iCloud email to work in TB - I'm currently being forced to run TB and Apple Mail simultaneously, which is very messy. It's clear that TB can be made to work with an iCloud email - but why oh why is it SO hard? I don't want to be forced back to Apple Mail - but at this stage, that's looking likely. I have Apple Mail on my iOS devices and obviously can't use TB on them - which means I'll always be across two email clients, which can't be a good thing.
