Delete cookies on close setting auto-resets

Hi there,

I would like the option "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" to be enabled, but it appears that Firefox is actively undoing this change. If I go into settings and check this box, it will appear to be successful and remain checked until that session is over, but if I close & restart, the box is always unchecked after restarting. Is this a bug in the build of Firefox I'm running (102), or is this behavior intended?

Thank you!

Hi golden130, It is intentional. The function has been moved to the History section Settings.

jsscher2000 has a very detailed explanation -

Delete Cookies when Firefox Closes and Potential Data Loss

The old cookie lifetime setting (network.cookie.lifetimePolicy), in recent years labeled "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed", has been migrated to the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting.

If the user did not previously have this setting turned on, they are protected from major data loss by disabling the default clearing of browsing/download/form/search history.

However, clearing cache *is* enabled. I suspect that for most people it's not a problem that cache is cleared at shutdown, unless they suffer from low bandwidth or need to work offline. That doesn't stop seeing it mentioned on forums:

29 June 2022 - Firefox 103 will change the function of the "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" checkbox:

when checked, Firefox will, if necessary, enable "Clear history when Firefox closes" and set cookies, offline website data, and cache to be cleared

when unchecked, it will remove cookies, offline website data, and cache from being cleared and, if nothing else is set to be cleared, turn off "Clear history when Firefox closes"

This will solve the current issue that people keep re-checking the box thinking Firefox is ignoring them.
