Hi, Downloading files to a system directory (Linux) such as /home/me/doc/here /home/me/doc/there Have Ask me where to save files checked.

But lastDir is not a real directory I can navigate, such as /run/user/1000/doc/3dcccd48

This causes the user needs to navigate sometimes very long system directory tree for each successive file download.

In about:config I set:

 browser.download.lastDir
 browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite	false
 browser.open.lastDir

But every time these are obfuscated to something like: /run/user/1000/doc/3dcccd48

This introduces about 10 user interactions with mouse/keyboard for each file I download in succession.

How do I get FF to stop obfuscating real system directories for "lastDir"

Really really appreciate the help :)

What OS? Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla, run it from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

I just downloaded 10 items in my distro version of Firefox and I also run another copy of the same version from Mozilla. They both had no issue downloading all files to the same folder.

Do you have the same issues under another user account on the same computer?

Hi Jon!

I'm running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with the platform recommended Firefox Snap.

I just read the similar thread where you were also helping: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1364224

and this gave me some ideas to try... and found a workaround!

I tried downloading and running different versions and swapping profiles.

First of all when using the latest tar.bz2 download of FF with a blank profile everything works as expected.

Two undesired security enhancements are no longer present:

1) obfuscated lastDir causing inability to remember the real location of last downloaded file 2) blocked file:/// URI browsing

These two things appear related

I am currently running the latest tar.bz2 using my most recent profile from the Snap tree but with a prefs.js from just before I started using the Snap. This gave me all my history, open tabs etc. but avoids those two undesired features of the Snap.

If I load the above working Profile from the Snap binaries the undesired enhancements come back: lastDir obfuscated and no local file:/// browsing.

So it is something in the Snap, which I will no longer use for now.

Happy to run the tar.bz2 any day :)

I would suggest using sync to get your data to the new version of Firefox. You can then send your open tabs from the snap version to the Mozilla version. see screenshot
