I do not know why your husband is still receiving the old style Google page, Google have recently dropped the "UK only" search option from the www.google.co.uk site. If you want to limit search results to the UK only you can either perform the search then click on the "Pages from the UK" link in the left hand panel, or you can change your home page to http://www.google.co.uk/webhp?cr=countryUK which will default to pages from the UK searches.
