Actually, I think I may have answered my own question - on further checking out caret browsing I find it is not that. The only place I have the problem is in Google Searches. They DO place a caret in front of each of the search results but it has nothing to do with F7. It seems to be only Firefox that this happens in. IE does not have the caret in Google search results - it scrolls just about as fast but it is more linear and controllable - it does not accelerate as it goes down the page.
