When I start Firefox on my Vista machine, the busy icon displays for a few seconds, then goes away, but the firefox window never appears. The task manager indicates that it is running, but there is no firefox window. Restarting sometimes works.

My default browser is Internet Explorer SVN is running in the background

The Task Manager shows firefox.exe process running with 17,340K of memory, but does not show up in the applications tab. I trided starting as asministrator - still no window, but it now shows up in the applications tab of the Task Manager.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.
