Firefox works great except when I open a new Firefox window. In the new window, the URL does not refresh, and the bookmarks that I have below the URL line do not show.

Note: It all works perfectly when I have just the one FireFox window. The problem occurs only when I open a new FireFox window!

Note: In the second window: If I type in the URL, it shows OK. But if I do a Google search, and then choose a page from the search results, the URL does not refresh - rather, it stays on the original URL, even although it shows the new new page.

These problems only occur when I start a new window in FireFox. When there is just one window, everything works perfectly.

Any ideas?

Try:

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thanks. This technique showed that these two add-ons are causing the problem:

  • Firebug 1.8.2
  • ColorZilla 2.5.5

When I disable these the second window in FireFox works correctly.

I updated Firebug from their website and now it works OK.

Thanks for your help.
