I don't want to update to the very latest version of Firefox because I'm using a Learning Management System for my online master's program that doesn't currently ensure compatibility with the latest version of Firefox. Firefox 6 is no longer supported and the usage of such versions that have known security vulnerabilities is not recommended.

You can install the portable Firefox 3.6.x version to access websites that do not work with Firefox 5+.
