Disable the search suggestions by right-clicking the text field in the search bar and remove the mark before "Show Suggestions".
Click the search engine button and open 'Manage Search Engines'.
At the bottom of that window there is a box [X] "Show search suggestions".

Sorry, I don't have a Show Suggestions checkbox. What now?
Where might I find the other you mention-Manage Search Engines? Would that help?
Thanks.
That is about the (Google) search bar on the Navigation Toolbar.
I clicked on the links and saw where you where talking about and sure enough, everything works as it said for that area of the search located on the Tool Bar up top right.
But for the main area of my page in the middle of the page where my main larger Google Search box is remains unaffected. I am still receiving drop down search suggestions and no sign of right click Show Suggestion or Manage Search Engines appears for this area of the page.
I am unable to affect change here where I use it the most. I hardly ever use the smaller Search box in the upper right top where these changes seem to work.
Any ideas where to go from here? Thanks.
Google provides those suggestions for its search bar and you can't disable that in Firefox.
A long time ago you could disable that in the Google Search Settings, but that setting is no longer available.
A possibility is to use this Google link: http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0
Note that this page doesn't have autocomplete=off like the regular Google page has, so Firefox will remember form data entered there if enabled.
