Over the last few days, FF has developed an annoying problem: at random, a page will (google, ebay, etc) will attempt to redirect to cti.w55c.net.

The redirect is blocked by the WebFilter add-on (cloudacl.com) blocking malicious/virus/trojan sites.

I have scanned with McAfee Security Centre (provided by my ISP - Plusnet), Malwarebytes, and Spybot Search and Destroy. None identify any form of virus or trojan.

In addition, and I am not sure if this is related, the performance of FF has considerably slowed, taking many seconds (10-30) to load a page or switch between tabs), and on the processes tab of Task Manager FF is using 261Mb of memory (plugin container is typically around 9Mb).

Thanks for the reply.

No it doesnt seem to happen with IE8.

I have noticed two additional issues, which may be related: viewing any page in FF, if you select some text, right click and select search Google for "....", normally a new tab opens with the associated google search. Now the new tab opens, and in addition the page from which the search was requested also redirects to the google search (i.e. two tabs now show the same google search).

Secondly, I noticed when searching for a location in google maps, the 'result' page only loads a partial header before stopping. This does not happen with IE8. The URL is also 'corrupted', e.g. searching for 'Tournus, France' - in IE8 the URL of the results page is http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Tournus, in FF it is http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&output=js&hl=en&geocode=&abauth=83f9bbab%3AlNEgWLPeb3JkxZQCzsMzE6fQ_Us&q=Tournus%2C+France&aq=0&oq=Tournus&vps=1&ei=05MlT_fGFILi4QSB64G0Cg&jsv=391c&sll=47.04057%2C4.060056&sspn=11.65273%2C19.753418&vpsrc=0&safe=high

Well, I cleared all the cookies and diabled (but didnt remove) all the add-ons, but still it was redirecting randomly.

Not entirely sure what you meant by 'clear the cache' but a PC savey mate suggested deleting the FF application data folders: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla.

And touch wood, this has done the trick!!

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
